Attributed to Petersburg, circa 1824, mahogany veneer, yellow pine and poplar secondary, rectangular top with incised line and applied underside molding, vertical book-matched veneered case front to the upper projecting drawer above three recessed graduated drawers flanked by fully ring turned columns, paneled sides, turned front feet, straight rear feet.

Private Collection, Petersburg, Virginia Retains an old dark original surface; bottom of upper drawer in pencil with signature script present but illegible and "Petersburg VA, December 20th, 1824." Upon infrared inspection the name "William Tench" can be made out. Tench is recorded as being admitted to the Petersburg Benevolent Mechanic Association on April 9, 1838 as a cabinet maker.
Appears to original have had a dressing mirror, mortise holes to the top board present; later pulls; veneer chip and loss to front lower left leg corner; other areas of wear and minor veneer chips.
