The Model 1873 .22 rimfire rifle is easily identified by its .22 caliber markings and the absence of a loading gate on the right sideplate. It is chambered for both .22 short and long rimfire cartridges, which are loaded through the front end of the magazine tube. Standard barrel lengths include 24 inches or 26 inches. Manufactured from 1884 to 1904, a total of 19,552 units were produced, making it the first repeating rifle made in America chambered for .22 rimfire ammunition.
