Flavius Josephus (37-100 CE) was born and raised in Jerusalem. He was an historian whose works provide important information about Jewish history and early Christianity, and their popularity led to their translation into several languages.

Boards with scuffs, stains, and discoloration, significant edge and corner wear, and a few minor worm holes; spine with creasing, rubbing, and a couple of cracks, later yellow pigment added to label, slightly loose tail band, and losses at ends including loss of headband; joints creased and rubbed with areas of cracking starting; refreshed paste-downs, lacking free endpapers, name of previous owner on front paste-down and several ownership stamps throughout; unfortunate taped repairs at front and rear hinges with additional repairs at gutter between +2 and A1; title page with small label pasted at upper margin; interior lightly toned with occasional frayed edge, small stain, worm holes, minor hole or closed tear, writing, gutter wear, and foxing; fairly frequent small areas of grime and damp staining (heaviest later in the volume); one leaf with small corner loss; margins occasionally trimmed close, and paper with occasional variation in thickness; overall most pages quite clean with fairly typical wear for a book of this age.
