Oil on canvas, signed at upper right, presented in an ornate giltwood frame.

Stretcher size 20 x 16 in.; Frame dimensions 27 x 23 in.

Volney Allan Richardson studied at the Buffalo School of Fine Arts and the Albright Art Gallery in Buffalo, New York, with William Merritt Chase. He also studied at the Art Students' League of Buffalo, New York, and the Art Students' League in New York City under Edward Dufner, after winning the New York scholarship in 1905.

Volney exhibited at the Buffalo Society of Artists; the Albright Art Gallery (now the Albright-Knox Art Gallery), Buffalo, New York; the Art Students' League of Buffalo and New York City; and at the Easy Street Gallery in Nantucket, Massachusetts. He was a member of the Buffalo Society of Artists and was a charter member of the Arts Club of Buffalo.
