Born in Detroit, Michigan, Bill Sawczuk earned degrees in mechanical engineering and architecture before pursuing a career in fine art. In 1976, he enrolled at the Rocky Mountain School of Art in Denver, though most of his art education has been self-taught.

As a young man traveling through the Western states, he fell in love with the Teton Park - Yellowstone area and has since called Wyoming his home. Based in Jackson Hole, his subject matter includes horses, cowboys, wildlife, and the landscapes of Wyoming.
