Mid to late 18th century, watercolor on ivory, both sitters attired in coat, waistcoat, ruffled chemise, and white cravat, the first in red coat facing sinister with intense direct gaze, presented in a period gilt brooch, the verso retaining plaited hairwork (2 x 1 1/2 in.); the second wearing hair in queue, attired in blue coat facing dexter and looking direct, presented in a period gilt bracelet case (1 3/4 x 1 1/2 in.).
From a Private Collection, Washington, D.C. Red coat miniature purchased in 2001 from Gould Antiques, Portobello, London.
Good estate condition.
