Early 19th century, walnut construction, the ebonized pillar with carved polychrome decoration on both ends; each of the instrument's 32 strings is held in place by a bone or ivory guide on the soundboard; the neck is fitted with hand-wrought iron tuning pins for the strings; a carved and painted floral motif is applied to each side of the neck's front; the soundbox and pillar share a hexagonal base.
