Ovoid forms with flattened covers, both display Oribe style glazes, the larger (HOA 10 1/2 in.) dated 1999, and the smaller (HOA 10 in.) dated 1998, both signed by the potter.

Oribe, a type of Japanese pottery that first appeared in the sixteenth century. It is stoneware recognized by its freely-applied glaze as well as its dramatic visual departure from the typical monochrome glazes of the period.
