The painting hung in the artist's home in Rock Hill, South Carolina until his wife's death. It was then gifted to Lewandowski's nephew in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Edmund Lewandowski was a highly-regarded Precisionist artist from the 20th century. His broad spectrum of work pulled from his industrial roots in Milwaukee to create paintings, murals and publications, including for the WPA. He served as Director of the Layton School of Art in Milwaukee, Professor at Florida State University, then Chair of the Art Department at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina until his retirement.
