Circa 1850, silk and linen, worked in chenille thread on fine loosely woven linen, depicting a racehorse with capped rider atop, posed on greenery, with "CYMBA" stitched below, framed, the backing paper bearing a sticker from framer, The Veerhoff Galleries, as well as label for "Estate of Lillian T. Pratt / No. P39".

Lillian Thomas Pratt (1876-1947, mostly Virginia), was a well-known collector of Russian art and objects, and donated much of her collection of Russian art, including Faberge, to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.

Cymba was a brown thoroughbred filly (by Melbourne x Skiff) born in 1845, and winner of the 1848 Epsom Oaks.

Fading; loss to threads; discoloration; torn and brittle backing paper to frame; not examined out of frame.
