Historic Panicello was the original home of Judge Peter Johnston, who fought in the Revolutionary war. Judge Johnston's grandson, John Warfield Johnston, was also born at Panicello and became a United States Senator representing Virginia for thirteen years.

Some degradation and wear to patina are consistent with age and use.
