John Kolb McIver was an American artist celebrated for his evolution from realist watercolor landscapes to abstract compositions. Born in Jacksonville, Florida, he graduated from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, before returning to his hometown, where he was a self-taught painter and instructor at the Jacksonville Art Museum. In 1967, McIver relocated to Evansville, Indiana, and later lived in Grandville, Michigan, before settling in Hickory, North Carolina, in the 1990s. His early works were characterized by realistic depictions of landscapes and figures, showcasing his adeptness with watercolors.
In 1993, McIver transitioned to abstract art, producing series of paintings that explored color, light, and texture.
