Yongzheng period, circa 1735, porcelain hand painted in bright enamels and gilt, the center of the dish with the Arms of Hanbury in pretense with Comyn, a gilt ground shield with a diagonal green band uninterrupted by the Comyn arms, a wide border of gilt grapevines.

This plate was part of a service ordered by London Quaker merchant and slave owner John Hanbury (1700-1758), who was granted considerable lands in Maryland and Virginia and was known for creating upset in the Quaker community for permitting slavery on his estates.

Very good estate condition, slighr rubbing to the gilt rim.
