Likely Tang dynasty (618-907), earthenware with traces of white, black, red, and green pigments, the guardian figure is dressed in armor with lion masks at shoulders and on belt at waist, fitted hat, detailed face with black beard and mustache, comes mounted on a black metal stand.


HOA 45 1/2 in.

Sculpture is missing lower section with edge of robe and feet or true base; one arm is broken off near shoulder and the second arm has hand broken off, both arm and hand remain with the sculpture; extensive losses to pigments; a break with loss to the hat; possible old repairs and restoration.
