Private Collection, Chapel Hill, North Carolina The exhibition catalogue, in the form of a faux police dossier, connects to Warhol's attempt at a public art project for the 1964 World's Fair in Queens, New York. Philip Johnson asked Warhol and others to create art for the facade of the New York State Pavilion, and Warhol's contribution was enlarged mug shots of the City of New York Police Department's thirteen most wanted men from 1962. When his installation was rejected, Warhol covered it in silver paint. His project was later shown at the Galerie Ileana Sonnabend in slightly modified form.
Wraps with light toning and edge wear, mild grime and staining, scuffs, and mostly subtle creasing except for one larger crease on the front; a rust mark from the staple; leaves with occasional faint creasing and patches of light foxing. Very good.
