Yongzheng period, circa 1735, porcelain hand painted in bright enamels and gilt, the center of the dish with the Arms of Hanbury in pretense with Comyn, a gilt ground shield with a diagonal green band uninterrupted by the Comyn arms, a wide border of gilt grapevines.

These dishes were part of a service ordered by London Quaker merchant and slave owner John Hanbury (1700-1758), who was granted considerable lands in Maryland and Virginia and was known for creating upset in the Quaker community for permitting slavery on his estates.
