Sandy Skoglund is an American artist known for creating and photographing vibrant, surrealistic environments. Her interest in popular culture, consumerism, and repetition result in large-scale "staged photographs" that are carefully assembled and fuse the mediums of sculpture, installation art, and photography. Skoglund is a forerunner in her field, working alongside other major photographers such as Cindy Sherman and David LaChapelle.
Skoglund's work is present in most major institutions that house photography, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, DC.; Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; Los Angeles Country Museum of Art, Los Angeles; and others.
