Anne Ogle Tayloe was the wife of John Tayloe III (American, 1770-1828), a wealthy planter and politician of Mt. Airy, Richmond County, Virginia, and The Octagon, Washington, D.C. Another portrait of Mrs. Anne Ogle Tayloe was painted by Gilbert Stuart (American, 1755-1828), and resides in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.

The painting has been laid down on board, with several areas of repair and associated retouching visible under UV light.
