Santos Barbosa was born and raised in McAllen, Texas. He moved to Tucson, Arizona, in the 1960s and has resided there ever since. Santos is primarily a self-taught painter who is strongly influenced by the works of Charles Russell and Frederic Remington.

Many of his paintings feature historical scenes in the Rio Grande Valley. His work is included in collections worldwide.
