Lev Meshberg was a Soviet and American painter renowned for his autobiographical works filled with symbols and enigmas. Born in Odessa, Ukrainian SSR, he began painting and drawing in early childhood, receiving First Prize in the Ukrainian Annual Art Contest in 1946. He graduated with highest honors from the Odessa College of Fine Art in 1958 and became a full member of the Union of Soviet Artists in 1960.

In 1973, Meshberg emigrated to the United States, escaping the constraints of Soviet artistic norms. His paintings, characterized by a combination of discernible objects and ethereal renderings with dream-like light and color, have been widely exhibited and are part of numerous museum and private collections worldwide.
