Artist Christine Joy was born in Ithaca, New York and now resides in Bozeman, Montana. She is well-known for her dynamic woven sculptural objects and vessels constructed from materials she has gathered personally.
"My willow sculptures resonate with the land. They are dynamic linear forms that speak of clouds, mountains, water and fields. The density and movement of each piece evokes the rhythm of seasons and cycles.
[Willow] continues to amaze me with its abundance and beauty. It delights all my senses. When I see a bundle of willow, I think it is the most wonderful sight. When I am out in a patch, I feel like I am collecting something as valuable as gold."
Christine studied at Vermont College of Norwich University, Montpelier, where she earned a Masters of Arts in Art Therapy. She also earned a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Printmaking, from Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, New York. Her works can be found in public and private collections including: Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington D.C.; Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Massachusetts; Racine Art Museum, Racine, Wisconsin; Erie Art Museum, Erie, Pennsylvania; The Contemporary Art Society, London, England;
Sara and David Lieberman Collection, Phoenix, Arizona; among others.
