Late 20th century, the larger, signed to the underside "D. Claggett" for master tinsmith David Claggett of Vermont, having crimped rims, twisted weavers, and a reticulated heart form handle, with applied copper ribbons to each side; the smaller a wire composition with scalloped rim and foot and braided handle, not signed; each presented with a collection of (24) hand-painted miniature stone fruit including strawberries, lemons, pears, walnuts, peaches, apples, and others.
The larger 9 x 8 1/4 x 7 in.
From the Estate of the late Ginny Marcos of Whimsy Antiques, Connecticut David Claggett says of his craft: “It’s a nice feeling when you start with a flat piece of tin and end up with a beautiful object.” David's tin smithing began a a hobby, and by 1985 his shop has been selling his wares to Colonial Williamsburg, producing reproduction pieces for museums, and has made ornaments for the White House Christmas tree His works are known for their early American style patterns.
The larger basket with some bending to handle, possible areas of resoldering; the smaller basket with some warping and separation to weavers; the fruit collection with general wear to the paint.
