The Contemporary Art Collection of Francine & Benson Pilloff, Chapel Hill, North Carolina Daniel L. Mathewson was born in Minnesota, grew up in a Raleigh, and lived in Efland, North Carolina. He was known for his large scale sculptures of animals, frogs, dinosaurs and many other creations constructed from a menagerie of repurposed industrial scrap and found objects.
His works have been included in various private and public collections, including a large stegosaurus at the North Carolina Zoo's Earthworks exhibition in 2002 with a theme of 'Celebrating Arts, Animals and Earth'.
