The Springfield .45 Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle is a notable American firearm, recognized for its innovative design and historical significance. Adopted by the U.S. Army in the late 19th century, it featured a single-shot, breech-loading mechanism known as the "trapdoor," which allowed for quicker reloading compared to earlier muzzle-loading rifles.
Chambered for the .45-70 Government cartridge, the Model 1884 was used primarily during the Indian Wars and into the Spanish-American War. Its sturdy construction and reliability made it a favored choice among soldiers.
Overall good estate condition, working action, barrel and receiver have surface scratches, oxidation and finish wear, stock has moderate field marks from age and use, bottom of stock is incised VE, bore has some oxidation with good rifling present, ramrod is currently unremovable.
