Born in Durham, NC, Hagerty was raised in Charleston, South Carolina. A surgeon by profession and artist by choice, Hagerty was recently honored with a retrospective exhibition titled Richard Hagerty: American Surrealist at the City Gallery at Waterfront Park in Charleston, SC, from November 20, 2015, through January 10, 2016. Hagerty currently resides in Charleston.
