Late 18th century, the first likely Irish with shaped crest rail, pierced and carved interwoven back splat, upholstered slip seat, flush seat rails, front cabriole legs with stylized acanthus leaf and rosette on pad feet (37.5 x 22 x 19 in., seat height 18 in.); the second with rounded and scrolled ear crest rail, pierced back set within a molded shoe, upholstered slip seat, flush seat rails, front cabriole legs with pad feet (38.5 x 23 x 20 in., seat height 19 in.).
From a Private Collection, Washington, D.C. The first with break and repair at crest rail / stile joints; later upholstered seat; left stile with patch above seat rail; later glue blocks; rear toes tipped; front right leg with repair at seat rail joint.
The second left stile with break and repair near seat rail, the same leg with cut/repair at foot; surface scratches and finish wear throughout.
