England, circa 1800, unsigned, the first sitter attired in blue coat, circa 1795, finely rendered with high collar and tied white cravat beneath a blue overcoat, against a warm grey ground; the second sitter attired in high collar with tied white cravat beneath a dark overcoat, rendered against a cross-hatched sky. Both presented within period gilt pendant cases, both glazed to reveal hairwork to the posterior, the first retaining with gilt initials and remains of seed pearls.
