Robert Nichols. A YEAR'S GRAIN 1920-1921. Tokyo: privately printed, 1921. Sewn and stapled softcover with decorative paper wraps with paper label on the front. 8vo; 16pp. Limited edition; no. 41 of 100 copies; numbered and signed by the poet, with an additional signature on the title page; inscription to Lady Sybil Colefax on the limitation page: "To Sybil Colefax with / best wishes for 1922 / from Robert Nichols / Imperial University / Tokio." A collection of aphorisms and proverbs with the first letter of each statement printed in red.

Robert Nichols (English, 1893-1944) was a poet and playwright who worked as the chair of English at Tokyo Imperial University from 1921 until 1924.

Lady Sybil Colefax (English, 1874-1950) was a hostess and interior designer with numerous connections and well-known associations with members of the British royalty, as well as famous actors and writers such as Charlie Chaplin, Virginia Woolf, Aldous Huxley, and Evelyn Waugh.

Detached and brittle wraps with faint spotting, minor grime and a small stain on the label, a light damp stain on the cover, discoloration on back cover, and browned and chipped edges; wrap interiors with heavier spotting; interior with creasing, occasional minor grime and spotting, and first and last page foxed. A rare book with thirteen of the one hundred copies in institutions, per WorldCat.
