Oil on panel, signed at lower right, presented in a period gilt composition frame.

Panel 11 3/4 x 6 1/2 in.; Frame dimensions 18 1/2 x 13 1/2 in.

Born on November 16, 1847, in Whitstable, Kent, England, Harnett emigrated to the United States around 1878. A talented landscape painter, he lived in California, Seattle, Washington, and New York City throughout his career.

In addition to his work as an artist, Harnett served as the British Vice-Consul in San José, Guatemala, in 1894, held a position with the Pacific Mail Steamship Company, and may have also been a British Cavalry officer stationed in Dublin at one point. One of his notable paintings, an oil on canvas measuring 22 3/16" x 36 3/16", depicts a view of Seattle and Mt. Rainier, painted in 1889. It is currently housed in the Museum of History and Industry in Seattle, Washington.

Harnett passed away on January 29, 1914, in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, New York.

Minor loss and retouching to frame; overall in good estate condition.
