Janet Leach (American, 1918-1997), Cylinder Vase

Mid- to late 20th century, glazed stoneware cylindrical vase with a slightly irregular form, with impressed JL and St Ives mark on foot.

The lot also includes Marion Whybrow's The Leach Legacy: The St Ives Pottery and Its Influence (Bristol: Sansom & Company, 1996) (Light wear to wraps, minor wear to interior).

Janet Darnell Leach studied pottery at Alfred University, Black Mountain College in North Carolina, and in Japan. She met Bernard Leach in Black Mountain in the early 1950s. They soon got married and Janet moved to England to help him run his studio in St. Ives.

All over glaze crazing, hairlines, and irregularities inherent to the work; light grime to interior.
