Willy Guhl was a pioneering Swiss industrial designer known for his innovative approach to functional and sustainable design. Born in Stein am Rhein, Switzerland, Guhl studied at the Zurich School of Applied Arts and later became one of its most influential educators. He gained international recognition for his minimalist and timeless furniture designs, many of which were crafted from unconventional materials. One of his most iconic creations, the "Loop Chair," made from a single piece of Eternit fiber cement, exemplifies his commitment to simplicity, durability, and material efficiency. Guhl’s work often merged modernist aesthetics with practicality, earning him a lasting legacy as a trailblazer in 20th-century design. His designs remain celebrated for their elegance, innovation, and environmental consciousness.
