Wolf Kahn was born in Germany and immigrated to the United States in 1940. After serving in the US Navy during World War II, he used the GI Bill to study with the renowned Abstract Expressionist painter Hans Hoffman. After completing formal studies at the University of Chicago in 1951, Kahn devoted himself to painting full time.

Kahn's unique blend of Realism and Color Field paintings garnered much critical acclaim. His paintings are in such prominent public collections as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, California; the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, D.C.; and more.
