Stacy, North Carolina, circa 1930s, carved and painted wood.

Length 16.75 in.

Former collection of Roy Willis.

During the mid-20th century, Eldon Willis and Elmer Salter collaborated to create duck decoys that gained widespread recognition for their exceptional craftsmanship and practical design. Their work was shaped by the needs of local hunters in the Core Sound region, who required durable and reliable decoys to withstand the challenging coastal hunting environment.
This is a very nice early example with a well carved head placed on a prominent neck shelf. Core Sound black duck decoys are rare.

Original paint with moderate gunning wear, tight age checks in the neck.
