English or Irish, first half 19th century, rectangular black lacquered form with hand-painted scenic decoration, featuring two setters and their masters on the scent of a bevy of quail, the sides with carved with mottos and likely the owner's name to the sides and underside: "free trade" / REFORM / CHSmith. / Friendship / HONOR the BRAVE".
