19th century, includes one large ledger with bamboo tabs dated Meiji 26 (1893) to cover, and two smaller ledgers, each with long rectangular pages, each page has columns of writing in black ink, bound at the top with cotton threads and braided hemp tassels which could be looped on a rope with other ledgers and quickly gathered up if there was a fire or emergency, ledgers often had the bold characters on the front with the words "daifuku cho" which translates to "good fortune;" a phrase that would hopefully create prosperous business transactions within the ledger.
