Fred Johnston (Seagrove, NC), Large Barbed Vase

Wood fired stoneware with ash and milky white shino glaze, bulbous form with allover raised spiny pattern, signed by the artist and stamped "FJ" and "Museum Quality" on the underside.

Fred Johnston studied pottery in Seagrove, Alfred University, and Penn State University. His work can be found in several museum permanent collections, including the Mint Museum in Charlotte. He established Johnston & Gentithes Art Pottery in Seagrove with his wife in 1997.

Felt protective pads applied to underside; good estate condition.
