Southern Chippendale Walnut Slant Front Desk

Attributed to North Carolina, yellow pine secondary, dovetailed case, hinged lipped lid with bread board ends and loper support, prospect door with burl veneer panel, six small drawers, eight valanced pigeon holes, interior prospect with lower drawer and upper scalloped drawer (currently stuck - unable to release from hidden latch), four graduated drawers with scratch bead with figured grain burl fronts, later French bracket feet.

42.5 x 40.5 x 22.5 in.

The concealed small drawer behind the prospect door purportedly signed "Made by John Smith in Truth 1856" however, unconfirmed.

Later feet; cut/patch repair at hinged joint and lock area to lid; drawer runners rebuilt with later pulls; front edge of lid with cut/patch/repair; interior prospect drawer is unable to open.
