The .243 Winchester cartridge, chambered in the 99C, became popular for its versatility in hunting small to medium game due to its flat trajectory and manageable recoil. The Savage 99, with its distinctive rotary magazine and lever-action mechanism, earned a strong following among hunters for its accuracy and ruggedness, becoming one of the most recognized lever-action rifles in American history.

Good overall estate condition, bluing through is strong with scattered scratches and faint surface rust areas found, bottom of detachable box magazine shows more moderate scratching, rifling is bright, stock shows scattered areas of wear through the finish with shallow chipping behind the action on left side junction with the action, checkering is pronounced as pressed rather than cut and with a basket weave pattern, bolt is in the white and polished but also shows oxidation.
