Frédéric Marius de Buzon was born in France to a family with Algerian and Spanish origins. He studied under Paul Quinsac at the École des beaux-arts in Bordeaux and later at the École des beaux-arts in Paris. While in Paris he befriended the artists Suzanne Valadon and Maurice Denis.

Marius de Buzon exhibited frequently throughout his lifetime at the Salon des Tuileries, the Salon d'Automne and other venues. After serving in Macedonia as a French soldier during WWI, he spent a large portion of his life in Algeria and is considered one of the founding members of the "School of Algiers."
