Douglas Gorsline studied at the Yale School of Art and later at the Art Students League in New York. He worked as an illustrator for various magazines and books, producing finely detailed engravings and drawings. Gorsline was the principal illustrator for the publisher Charles Scribners Sons and is best known for his illustrations for Thomas Wolfe's Look Homeward Angel and Clement Moore's The Night Before Christmas.
