Shadowbox Frame of Nine Classical Intaglios After the Antique

Circa 1890s, painted casts featuring classical themes as follows: the center register has two (2) identical busts of the Roman emperor Galba (68-69 A.D.) flanking a lively battle scene between Alexander the Great and the Persians; the upper register shows Jupiter and his eagle in the middle, Neptune and Salacia riding behind Triton and two hippocamps to the left and a parade of Erotes to the right; below this is the rendering of an Amazon warrior flanked by a dog and a female lion.

8-3/4 x 10-3/4 x 1in.

The collection is behind glass in an oval frame; the verso identifies the seller as KENT-LACEY Art Galleries of Brighton (England).

The intaglios and all framing elements survive as made; some light age soiling and trivial scuffs to the frame.
